The Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has commenced the construction of a 10,000-cbm water storage tank in Hulhumalé, as part of its "Water Security Plan." The groundbreaking ceremony, held today at MWSC's Hulhumalé Operation Center, was graced by the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, and MWSC’s Managing Director, Abdul Matheen Mohamed. Senior officials from the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure and MWSC's management team attended the ceremony.
This project, designed and currently being executed by MWSC’s skilled team, will be the largest water storage tank installed in the region. Once completed, the new tank will expand Hulhumalé's water storage capacity to 22,600-cbm. The project is scheduled for completion by February 2025 and is estimated to cost MVR 34.7 million.
As part of the Greater Malé Area Water Security Plan, MWSC has already decentralized water production with the establishment of water production centers in two areas of Malé Region. Additionally, work is underway to connect Malé – Hulhumalé water network across the Sinamale' Bridge, and to install two more water storage tanks in plot no. 378 of Malé. These strategic initiatives are critical to enhancing the water production, storage, and supply infrastructure in the Greater Malé Area, ensuring greater reliability and resilience in the water services provided to the public.
MWSC remains dedicated to providing uninterrupted and sustainable access to clean drinking water and safe sewerage services for all citizens.
