MWSC operates in accordance with the laws, regulations, standards and regulatory requirements applicable to its corporate activities and utility services.

Key laws and regulations applicable to the Company include:

  • Companies Act of the Maldives

  • Right to Information Act (Law No. 1/2014)

  • Water and Sewerage Act (Law No. 8/2020), as amended

  • Utility Regulatory Authority Act

  • General Regulation for Water and Sewerage Services in the Maldives (2021/R-23), as amended

  • Water Resources Conservation and Management Regulation (2021/R-22)

  • Water and Sewerage Tariff Regulation

  • Water and Sewerage House Connection Regulation (2022/R-90)

  • Dewatering Regulation for Construction and Industrial Projects, as amended

  • Water and Sewerage Service Subsidy Regulation

  • Waste Management Act and applicable Waste Management Regulations, where relevant to MWSC’s operations

  • Applicable environmental laws, regulations, permits and Environmental Impact Assessment requirements

  • Applicable employment, occupational health and safety, taxation, procurement and other corporate regulatory requirements.

MWSC also complies with relevant standards, guidelines, licenses and directives issued by the Utility Regulatory Authority and other competent regulatory authorities.

MWSC holds and maintains information and records relating to the administration, management and operation of the Company, including but not limited to:

  • Financial statements, budgets and expenditure records

  • Procurement, tender and contract-related records

  • Human resources and staff-related records

  • Water production, treatment, storage and distribution information

  • Sewerage collection, treatment and network information

  • Water quality monitoring and laboratory testing records

  • Customer account, billing and service-related records

  • Water and sewerage connection records

  • Infrastructure and development project information

  • Operational and emergency response records

  • Licenses, permits and regulatory records

  • Corporate Social Responsibility and community engagement records

  • Public relations, media and corporate communication records

  • Right to Information requests and related records

  • Annual reports, quarterly reports, statistics and other reports produced in the course of the Company’s operations

Access to information is subject to the provisions and exemptions contained in the Right to Information Act and other applicable laws.

MWSC received a total of 8 Right to Information (RTI) requests in 2025 and 13 RTI requests in 2026 as of 31 August 2026.

The requests mainly related to financial and commercial information, staff and organizational information, water quality and water supply operations, projects, contractual matters, and institutional or governance information.
